Austin, Texas – The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) announced Wednesday, January 11, 2017, that it has appointed Michael Nored as Deputy Commissioner of Legal Division, effective February 1, 2017.Nored has been with TDI since

Nored has been with TDI since 2012 when he joined as a staff attorney in the Enforcement Section of the Compliance Division. According to TDI, in 2013, he transferred to the Office of Financial Counsel in the Legal Division, then became Director of Financial Counsel later that year.

His accomplishments at TDI include handling regulatory litigation involving property and casualty insurance carriers, acting as TDI’s liaison with TWIA in carrying out administrative oversight, and providing legal services relating to troubled company monitoring and intervention, financial and market conduct examinations, and rehabilitation or liquidation through receivership.Nored has more than 14 years of experience in the private sector, and he has tried administrative appeals before the State Office of Administrative Hearing. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in political science from Texas A&M University-Corpus

He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in political science from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and graduated cum laude from the Texas Tech University School of Law. The position of Deputy Commissioner of Legal Division was previously held by Stan Strickland, who has been with TDI for 21 years. Strickland will be leaving TDI in February to join the office of Mitchell Williams, an Austin law firm.
