SLTX Welcomes New Counsel
The Surplus Lines Stamping Office of Texas (SLTX) announces new engagement with law firm Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, PLLC for legal services. The engagement with the firm begins November 1, 2020.
SLTX’s board of directors reviewed and discussed the Legal RFP and recommendation from their sub-committee during the September 17, 2020 board meeting. The RFP included stamping office background information, details of the various operational services required, and the terms of engagement. When evaluating responses from legal firms, the subcommittee focused on team qualifications, expertise, and cost. The firms which responded were then ranked by stated guidelines and qualifications.
Mitchell Williams was chosen for their strong experience with both insurance regulation and corporate governance and their current representation of other quasi-governmental entities similar to SLTX.
Mitchell Williams has also been recognized for their services with several awards including, 40 Attorneys named to The Best Lawyers in America in 2019 (Woodward White, Inc.), Six attorneys named 2019 Best Lawyers “Lawyer of the Year” (Woodward White, Inc.), and 29 Attorneys recognized by Super Lawyers, among others.
Mitchell Williams will be succeeding the Duane Morris law firm and specifically Alex Gonzales, who has been the General Counsel for the Stamping Office since our organization’s creation by the Texas Legislature in 1987. Mr. Gonzales has provided a wealth of experience and valuable expertise to the Board of Directors over the years and SLTX gives many thanks and much appreciation to all the hard work and dedication Alex provided throughout his tenure with the Board. We wish him continued success at Duane Morris.
