Service Arrangements for Texas Insurance Commissioner Mattax

Texas Insurance Commissioner David Mattax greatly impacted the state of Texas, and his loss has been felt across the state.

“Commissioner Mattax was guided by a simple principle: Do the right thing. It’s how he approached every decision and every meeting,” said Stephanie Goodman, Deputy Commissioner for Public Affairs for the Texas Department of Insurance. “It made working for him a privilege. And he was tough as nails. He remained actively engaged in agency business until just days before his death. He will be remembered fondly by employees all across our agency for his intellect, his wit, and his integrity.”

Funeral service arrangements for Mr. Mattax will begin Thursday, April 20, 2017. Mr. Mattax will lie in state from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, and Friday, April 21, at WeedCorley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, at University United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Texas State Cemetery.
